How to choose bath towels: size, cotton and the right set

The right bath towel should suit the way you dry yourself, the space in your bathroom and your laundry routine. Start with dimensions and texture, then decide how many towels you need. Colour is the finishing choice.

Choose the size before the colour

Measure a towel you already enjoy using. Do you want more width for wrapping around yourself, or a smaller towel that is easier to hang? Names such as hand towel and bath towel are useful, but the stated measurements are more precise.

Loom’s TERRY sets bring together these sizes:

  • 30 × 50 cm: a small guest towel, included in the three-piece sets.
  • 50 × 100 cm: a hand towel, included in both set formats.
  • 100 × 150 cm: a generous bath towel, included in both formats.

Check the distance between your towel rail and the floor, especially if you want to hang a larger towel without folding it several times.

Three pieces or four?

A three-piece set gives you one towel in each size. For example, TERRY in Seawater includes one 30 × 50 cm, one 50 × 100 cm and one 100 × 150 cm towel. It is an option when you want three different uses in a coordinated colour.

A four-piece set gives you two hand towels and two bath towels. TERRY in white and stone contains two 50 × 100 cm and two 100 × 150 cm towels. Choose that format if pairs are more useful than a small guest towel. It does not include the 30 × 50 cm size.

What does cotton terry feel like?

TERRY is made from 100% cotton with a looped terry surface. Choose it if you prefer a fuller bathroom-towel texture. The stated fabric weight is 600 GSM. That describes grams per square metre, rather than the total weight of every towel in the set.

Read what 600 GSM means for towels for a closer look at this number.

Consider drying space and spare towels

Count the people using the bathroom and think about what happens while one set is in the wash. A matching set does not have to supply every spare towel in the household. Check what you already own before buying more.

Allow room to open towels out after use. If your main priority is packing a compact towel for a gym bag or holiday, compare terry with a lighter flatwoven option in our hammam versus terry guide.

Choose a colour you will enjoy every day

Look at the bathroom’s largest surfaces: tiles, flooring and cabinets. White and stone can sit quietly beside neutral materials, while Seawater or white and aquamarine introduce colour. Compare the product photographs; screens can display shades differently.

Read care information before buying

The current TERRY descriptions specify machine washing at 40°C, tumble drying on low heat and no need to iron. Always follow the label on the individual towel. Our cotton towel care guide explains the routine.

Questions before choosing a set

Does a four-piece set include four bath towels?

Are the three-piece towels smaller?

The three-piece sets include an additional small size; their bath towel is also 100 × 150 cm.

Should I choose only by GSM?
