A wool blanket for the sofa should suit the way you use it. You might want a throw over your legs while reading, or a larger blanket to wrap around yourself. Start with dimensions, fibre composition and care, then choose the colour.
This guide uses examples from Loom Copenhagen’s wool blankets and throws.
Which blanket size suits your sofa?
Measure a blanket you already own to decide whether you want extra length or width.
140 × 200 cm for one person
This size is an option for personal use on the sofa or in an armchair, and can be folded over an armrest between uses. Møn in grey and Nyhavn in terracotta both measure 140 × 200 cm.
200 × 220 cm for extra coverage
Fanø with Merino wool measures 200 × 220 cm, giving you more fabric to wrap around yourself or use as an extra layer on a bed. Consider where you will store the folded blanket. For a bed, compare its dimensions with the mattress and the amount of overhang you want.
Pure wool or a Merino blend?
Read the complete fibre composition rather than relying on the product name alone. A Merino blend is not necessarily 100% Merino, and New Zealand wool describes the wool’s origin.
- Møn and Nyhavn: 100% New Zealand wool, 140 × 200 cm.
- Fanø: 80% Merino wool and 20% nylon, 200 × 220 cm.
Consider Møn or Nyhavn if you want an all-wool composition in the smaller size. Consider Fanø if you prefer the larger dimensions and a Merino-and-nylon blend. Assess the material together with the size, weave and your own preferences for texture.
What if wool feels scratchy to you?
Comfort against the skin is individual. Avoid choosing solely on a promise that wool never feels scratchy. Think about whether you will use the blanket directly against bare skin or mostly over clothing. If possible, feel the material before choosing. You can also ask about a particular model through our contact page.
Choose a colour for your room
Look at your sofa, floor and other large textiles. A similar shade can create a quiet look, while a contrasting colour makes the blanket stand out. Møn offers grey tones, Nyhavn brings terracotta, and Fanø has an ochre-and-cream leaf pattern. Compare the product photos, bearing in mind that screens can display colours differently.
Check care before buying
The product descriptions recommend dry cleaning for Møn and Nyhavn. Do not automatically apply that instruction to every blanket in the collection. Always follow the individual blanket’s care label. Merino or nylon content does not by itself mean a blanket is machine washable. Ask us if you are unsure about Fanø or another model before washing.
Woolmark’s guide to care symbols explains common labels; the instructions on your blanket take priority.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed difference between a throw and a blanket?
The terms overlap. Compare the stated dimensions and materials rather than assuming the name guarantees a size.
Is Fanø 100% Merino wool?
No. It contains 80% Merino wool and 20% nylon and measures 200 × 220 cm.
Can a 140 × 200 cm blanket go on a bed?
It can serve as an extra layer or decoration. Coverage depends on your bed’s dimensions and the overhang you want.
Can every Loom wool blanket go on a wool wash cycle?
No. Follow the individual care label. Møn and Nyhavn have a dry-cleaning recommendation in their descriptions.
